NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA

Visiting New Orleans is an experience. If you have never been you must go once in your lifetime. It is a unique city unlike any other I have been to before in my life. There is history, Jazz music, ghost tours, food of all types and a variety of cultures.

MARDI GRAS is an adventure and fun to see. The parades and parties in the streets are a sight to behold. If you attend Mardi Gras be prepared for an attitude of anything goes. The stories about girls showing their body to get cheap necklaces of beads are very true. Mardi Gras is definitely not a place for children. Any other time of the year there are many family type adventures and activities that all can enjoy such as music festivals, food festivals, art festivals, museums, the aquarium and the Audubon zoo.
New Orleans is ranked among the top 10 tastiest food towns in the south. The Gumbo Shop in the French Quarter on St. Peter is a wonderful place to eat good food and good prices. While in New Orleans try some gumbo, a poboy, a muffaletta, and a beignet.
For the best Poboy( sub type sandwich) or Muffaletta ( deli meat sandwich with olive dressing) go to Central Grocery in the French Quarter. For the best beignet( square donuts with loads of powder sugar) go to the original Cafe Du Monde and sit out in the open and enjoy the sights and sounds of New Orleans.
New Orleans is such a unique place. There are so many sights to see and places to explore. It is a must see for anyone who loves to travel.
Once again you have grabbed my attention with your blog. Louisiana, specifically the city of New Orleans, is a place I have always wanted to visit. Now living in NC I am so much closer to realizing this than when I lived in WV, just got to make the time to do it.
ReplyDeleteWhen did you visit? Was it recently or before Katrina in 2005? If more recently, were there still any signs or remnants of Katrina's impact?
I live outside of New Orleans in 1980. I visited in 1997. Now my son lives 75 miles away so I have been many times before and after Katrina. Most of the damages has been cleaned up but there are some areas on my last visit that looked as though they had not been touched. these were the poorer areas of town also. It is different since Katrina. One reason being so many chose to not return. It is a very poor area. The BP oil spill did not help the area either.
DeleteI had the wonderful opportunity of visiting New Orleans just a few years ago and loved it! I went with a friend who sat in on a band in the French Quarter. We stayed at an older couple's home, who he had met several years before. They live in the Garden District and were the best hosts anyone could ask for! They had more energy than I could ever wish for. Each day we walked around the neighborhood, drove through some of the areas (6 mos after Katrina) just to learn the city, and spent a lot of time in the French Quarter. Our hosts knew everyone, so that just added to the pleasure. At night, my friend Mike played. It was so much fun to experience the FQ from a musician's side of it. He knew many people as well. Can't wait to go back!!
DeleteI would like to visit this place, but I have some fears traveling in that area. I can't explain it. May it is the reputation of the people and the all the black magic that goes on there. Even so, I bet it is a site to see.
